1.1. Historical Development

College of Applied Science was decided to be established under the Presidency of Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University with the decision of Council of Ministers dated 06/06/2013 and numbered 2013/4927. With this decision, the Department of Tourism Management and Hospitality was established as a four-year program within the Faculty of Applied Sciences. It started accepting students in 2014-2015 academic year. Finally, name of the department was changed to “Tourism Management” with the letter of the Council of Higher Education dated 20.03.2020 and numbered 75850160-104.01.01.01-E.20993.

1.2. Education-Training

Fields of activity of the department include education and training activities (undergraduate education), research and development activities (academic publications), collaborations with tourism industry. Review and updating of program structures and curricula are carried out by the academic staff of department. Academic Boards of the department review and update their programs according to Academic & Work Calendar sent by the Department of Student Affairs for  next academic year in every April, taking into account  views of the academic staff who teach courses.

1.2.1. Program Qualifications (Graduate Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications)

Program qualifications are decided by the department committee, which is attended by all members of Department of Tourism Management. Current program qualifications are as follows;

  • To have advanced knowledge and understanding supported by textbooks, application tools and equipment and other scientific resources containing the most up-to-date information in the field of tourism and hotel management.
  • To be able to evaluate concepts, ideas and data in the field of tourism and hotel management using scientific methods, to identify complex problems and issues, to discuss, analyze and use results.
  • To be able to produce evidence-based solutions by using knowledge and skills, ttaking responsibility for unforeseen problems that may be encountered in applications in the field of tourism and hotel management.
  • To be able to plan, manage and take responsibility for a study related to the field of tourism and hotel management within a certain period of time, individually and/or as a team member.
  • To be able to plan and manage activities for professional development of employees under one's responsibility in tourism and hotel related sectors, to train shareholders and stakeholders.
  • Having an ability to think critically, produce alternative solutions, identify strengths and weaknesses of approaches to problems, reason and analyze information obtained from different sources.
  • To have written and verbal communication skills in the mother tongue and to be able to speak accurately and effectively, to have high persuasive power, to be able to convey information and ideas in a way that others can understand, to have the ability to interpret and criticize.
  • To be able to follow developments in the field and to have sufficient knowledge and understanding of at least one foreign language in order to communicate with colleagues.
  • To have knowledge of computer software and hardware at the level required by tourism field and to use information technologies.
  • To have numerical and statistical research skills related to field of tourism, ability to think analytically, interpret results, and develop a strategic approach.
  • To have sufficient executive knowledge on protection of natural environment by following legislation, basic values and principles related to the field of tourism.
  • To know interests, wishes and needs of the people under his/her responsibility, to know socio-cultural and economic characteristics of the country and immediate environment, to plan, implement and manage teaching and learning processes.
  • To make self-evaluation for continuous development, to take initiatives with new information and ideas, to improve oneself and one’s institution.
  • As a graduate of tourism management department, to plan, execute, analyze and interpret activities for professional development in tourism enterprises.

There are information packages for all elective and compulsory courses in the curriculum. In these information packages, the codes of courses, ECTS and course hours, skills and competencies, course objectives, and course outcomes are determined.

1.2.2. Program Competencies and Course Learning Outcomes

Faculty of Applied Sciences, Department of Tourism Management;

  • Basic knowledge and culture about tourism-related theories, facts, concepts and principles,
  • The ability to use knowledge acquired about tourism in business environment and in one's profession,
  • Ability to plan and manage tourism-related service processes,
  • Ability to prepare, discuss, analyze and present reports on tourism,
  • It aims to train students who have a capacity to provide tourist-oriented services in the tourism industry.

1.4. Management

Tourism Management Program is managed by the Head of Department (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nurdan SEVİM).

 

1.5. Stakeholders

In our department, we act within the framework of governance by acting together with internal stakeholders. Relations with internal stakeholders are carried out with the help of student representation, necessary boards and commissions, department student counseling and administrative staff.

1.6. External Stakeholders

Department of Tourism Management cooperates with external stakeholders, which are listed below:

  • Council of Higher Education (YÖK)
  • Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TUBITAK)
  • Bursa Eskisehir Bilecik Development Agency (BEBKA)
  • Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism
  • Public sector (Local governments)
  • Private sector (hotel companies, food and beverage companies, travel agencies, transportation companies)
  • Non-governmental organizations (Tourism associations)
  • Graduate students.

1.7. Documents

Student and faculty satisfaction surveys are organized by the President Office and results are shared with the department.
