Rector Prof. Dr. Şükrü BEYDEMİR

Rector Prof. Dr. Şükrü BEYDEMİR was born in Eskişehir on October 21, 1972. He completed his primary and secondary education in Payas, the sub-district of Dörtyol, Hatay. He successfully completed his undergraduate degree in the field of Chemistry, in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Yüzüncü Yıl University, in 1995. In the same year, he began his graduate education in the field of Biochemistry at the Chemistry Department of the Institute of Science at Atatürk University. He started to work as a research assistant at the Faculty Department of Sciences in Chemistry  at Atatürk University on September 13, 1996. In 1998, he completed his MA studies under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ö. İrfan KÜFREVİOĞLU. He successfully completed his Ph.D. studies in 2002 which he started in 1998 under the supervision of  Prof. Dr. Ö. İrfan KÜFREVİOĞLU in the field of Biochemistry at the Chemistry Department of the Institute of Science at Atatürk University. By receiving a scholarship from the Max-Planck Institute in Hannover, Germany in June-July 2002, he participated in the study, "The generation, cloning of cDNAs of some mouse genes, the production of antisense mRNAs and in situ hybridization", carried out by the group of Prof. Dr. Gregor Eichele. He received the academic title of Assistant Professor in 2002 and Associate Professor in 2006. He did a study in “The cloning of some carbonic anhydrase genes and the production of enzymes ” with Prof. Dr. Claudiu T. Supuran and his group at the University of Florence in Florence, Italy in June-July 2010. His studies and articles are still ongoing with the group outlined above. He received the academic title of Professor in 2012. In 2015, he went to Putra University in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and lectured on “Protein Structures and Enzymes” at the Department of Chemistry within the Faculty of Sciences and Faculty of Biotechnology for a week within the framework of the Mevlana Program. Professor Dr. Şükrü Beydemir has worked on 22 projects so far supported by the research funds of  TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey), SPO (State Planning Organization), Atatürk University and Anadolu University. He supervised 12 PhDs and 13 MSc studies. Thus, a total of 25 Postgraduate Theses have been completed under his supervision. He currently carries out the supervision of 2 Ph.D. and 2 Master studies, one of which is the study of a foreign national. He has published a total of 142 articles, 128 of which  have been published in international refereed journals  indexed in SCI and 14 articles in international and national refereed journals  which are not indexed in SCI. In addition, he has presented a total of 131 papers, 51 of which  are at International Congresses and 80 at National Congresses. The articles of Prof. Dr. Şükrü Beydemir have been cited 3564 times so far.  One poster of him was deemed worthy of the first prize by the Organization Committee of the 21^st National Chemistry Congress. In addition, the verbal statement prepared by Prof. Dr. Şükrü Beydemir and his group was deemed worthy of the first prize at the 27^th National Chemistry Congress. 23 articles published by Prof. Dr. Şükrü Beydemir indexed in SCI have been cited in 20 different international books. Prof. Dr. Şükrü Beydemir serves as an article review specialist in 32 international journals, one national journal, and on the Editorial Board of one national journal.  Prof. Dr. Şükrü Beydemir has carried out the scientific committee membership and the membership of the organizing committee in many congresses. Prof. Dr. Şükrü Beydemir served as the Deputy Director of Biotechnology Application and Research Centre within Atatürk University, the Vice-President of Chemistry department of Faculty of Science and the Deputy Director of the Institute of Science at Atatürk University. He served as the Vice-Rector of Iğdır University, the Head of the Chemistry Department of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences at Bursa Technical University. In addition, he has been a member of many commissions formed within Atatürk University. Prof. Dr. Şükrü Beydemir worked as the Regional Coordinator of the Research Projects Competition among Secondary Education Students, organized by TUBITAK-BIDEB between 2013-2016. Professor Dr. Şükrü Beydemir worked as a tenured academic staff at the Department of Biochemistry in the Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences within the Faculty of Pharmacy at Anadolu University between 2018-2020.

Professor Dr. Şükrü Beydemir was assigned as the Rector of Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University with the decision number 2020/91, which took effect after its publication in the Official Gazette dated March 4, 2020, with the signature of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
