Biotechnology, as a generic technology, is seen as a transformative force across major domains, including the development of products that enhance societal welfare and living standards, the rational use of natural resources, high energy-efficiency technologies, environmentally friendly solutions for sustainable development, and products and services tailored to individual needs. Through the accumulation of knowledge derived from new approaches and modern techniques, biotechnology has opened new horizons for the traditional biotechnology industry, providing substantial opportunities in terms of quality and efficiency. The ability of innovations in biotechnology to improve societal living conditions and enable the production of goods and services is contingent upon the implementation of these new methods and innovations at the production scale by bioengineers. At Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University, we aim to support our institutional vision by cultivating "the Engineers of Biotechnology," merging the knowledge and expertise of our institution. The biotechnology sector in our country holds immense potential, and graduates of Bioengineering departments are poised to bring new momentum to this sector through the education they receive.
Bioengineering is, by its nature, interdisciplinary, integrating faculties and research centers across our campuses and BŞEÜ teaching hospitals. In bioengineering, we bridge core engineering disciplines with physics and life sciences, employing mathematics and computational sciences. This convergence enables us to comprehend the functionality of living systems and to design novel solutions for critical challenges in medicine and biology. At BŞEÜ, bioengineers are making advancements in bio-inspired sensors, wearable and implantable devices, industrial microbiology, wastewater treatment, medical microbiology, polymers, composite materials, biomaterials, gene expression, enzyme kinetics, computational research, cellular biology, and therapeutics.
Our department's mission is to cultivate leaders at the interface of engineering and biology and to produce new knowledge. By merging engineering with modern molecular-omic biology to measure, model, manipulate, and create biological systems for robust new biotechnologies, we define and drive the emerging discipline of biological engineering.
