Research Summary

Our laboratory team conducts research to explore the potential of microorganisms for use in biotechnological processes related to environmental and health applications, with a focus on bioprocess engineering. This work includes isolating and identifying microorganisms from freshwater, saltwater, and industrial wastewater for biotechnological processes and using these organisms in biological wastewater treatment technologies to treat pollutants such as dyes, heavy metals, pesticides, and phenols. Our bioremediation research involves biosorption, bioaccumulation, and biodegradation mechanisms. Additional studies focus on the application of surfactants in wastewater treatment and their use in environmental applications, as well as the use of filamentous fungi in membrane bioreactors for wastewater treatment, and microbial applications in various bioreactor systems. Our team is also investigating the monitoring of biosorption processes through electrochemical methods. For health applications, we conduct studies on screening the antimicrobial properties of drug active ingredients. Further research explores biofuel potential in isolated microorganisms (such as fungi, cyanobacteria, and microalgae) and the use of microbial biopolymers in sensor technologies. Overall, our primary objective is to determine the potential of microbial processes for biotechnological applications in health and environmental sectors.
