The Department of Foreign Languages, affiliated with the Rectorate of our University, was established as a department affiliated with the Rectorate to provide foreign language courses for associate and undergraduate programs. Since the 2013-2014 academic year, the English I and English II courses, compulsory courses stipulated by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), have been offered by our Department Head via Distance Learning. Since the 2016-2017 academic year, English has been taught in optional English Preparatory classes at our university. In 2018, a proposal was submitted to the Council of Higher Education to establish a School of Foreign Languages. Following the establishment of the School of Foreign Languages ​​by Presidential Decree No. 30686/755 dated February 14, 2019, these optional English Preparatory courses are now offered by the School of Foreign Languages.

Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University's School of Foreign Languages ​​aims to provide its students with a quality learning environment that meets international standards in foreign language education. The primary goal of the school is to enable students to acquire the language and communication skills they will need in their academic, professional, and social lives; to develop interculturally aware, inquisitive, and self-confident individuals.

The general objectives of the English language teaching program are as follows:
• To create an effective learning environment by utilizing new methods, techniques, approaches, and technological advancements in foreign language teaching.
• To help students acquire the language and communication skills they will need in their professional lives and in other areas of their lives.
• To raise awareness of different cultures.
• To develop self-confident, independent individuals who take responsibility for their learning.
• To develop students' research and inquiry skills.

Optional English Preparatory Program
The Optional English Preparatory Program, offered within the school, is offered upon request to students studying at faculties and colleges where the language of instruction is Turkish. The program lasts one academic year, and students who successfully complete it are eligible for both a certificate and exemption from compulsory English courses in their programs. The preparatory program is conducted at levels A1 (beginner), A2 (elementary), and B1 (intermediate), based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ​​(CEFR). Students are placed in appropriate courses based on their placement test results.

Courses and Materials
The Main English Course is at the heart of the program, teaching grammar, reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in a holistic manner.
The curriculum utilizes Oxford University Press's English File series of books and online resources, providing students with a contemporary and interactive learning environment.

Assessment and Evaluation
Students' progress in the preparatory program is monitored through various types of exams:
• Placement Test
• Quizzes
• Midterm Exams (Speaking, Writing, Listening, Reading, Main English Course)
• Speaking Portfolio
• Writing Portfolio
• Final and Supplemental Exams (Speaking, Writing, Listening, Reading, Main English Course)
Assessment is based on the student's progress and holistic development of their language skills.

Academic Staff and Learning Environment
The School of Foreign Languages ​​offers a supportive learning environment to its students with its expert and experienced academic staff. Active student participation is encouraged in classes conducted in technologically advanced classrooms, with emphasis placed on individual and group work.

Activities and Social Participation
The School of Foreign Languages ​​stands out not only for its language teaching but also for its activities that support students' social and cultural development.
Participation in theater productions, musical performances, film days, seminars, and university-wide events organized throughout the year allows students to extend their language learning beyond the classroom.
