As part of the National Afforestation Day on 11 November, an environmental awareness event was held at our Vocational School. The activity was organized by the Social Security and Awareness Club and coordinated by Lecturer Yavuz Koç. With the participation of our academic staff and students, club members planted saplings in the school garden to promote environmental sensitivity and strengthen social responsibility awareness. The saplings used in the event were provided by the Söğüt Municipality, and our students left a lasting mark on nature by planting their saplings with their own hands. Lecturer Yavuz Koç emphasized that the purpose of the event was not only to plant saplings, stating, “Nature is our common home. Every student should have a tree, and every tree should have a story.” The administration of our Vocational School announced that the Social Security and Awareness Club will continue to organize similar activities throughout the year to promote social awareness.
Türkiye Eğitim Gönüllüleri Vakfı (TEGV) Volunteer Specialist Ceyda Can and TEGV Volunteer/Instructor Ezgi Zengin met with our students as part of the Volunteering Studies course. During the event, conducted by Lecturer Dilvin Arpa, valuable insights were shared on the importance of volunteerism and the activities carried out by TEGV. It was emphasized that volunteering is not merely an act of helping, but a meaningful value that reveals the human side of empathy, contributes to personal development, and strengthens society.
Our guests highlighted that volunteering begins with a heartfelt sense of responsibility and that anyone who wishes to change the world can take the first step by becoming a volunteer. Through examples demonstrating how even a small act of kindness can lead to significant change, strong awareness was created among our students. The event continued with a Q&A session, and at the end, a certificate of appreciation was presented to the representatives of Türkiye Eğitim Gönüllüleri Vakfı in recognition of their valuable contributions.
Our Vocational School was awarded the Orange Flag by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) as a result of its successful efforts to facilitate the access of individuals with disabilities to spaces within the campus. Our school, which received an award in the “Accessibility in Space” (Mekânda Erişilebilirlik) category within the scope of the Accessible University Awards given since 2018, has reaped the fruits of its comprehensive work. Within the scope of the studies carried out to ensure equal access to spaces, educational opportunities, and socio-cultural activities for individuals with disabilities, a disabled elevator, accessibility pathways, and Braille alphabet signs were added, allowing our students to move comfortably around the campus without needing assistance. This award received by our Vocational School became a concrete indicator of our vision to create an accessible education environment.
An orientation program was organized to facilitate the adaptation process of students joining our Vocational School in the 2025-2026 academic year. The program took place on October 22, 2025, with the participation of all first-year students. Within the scope of the orientation, students were given detailed presentations on the academic calendar, course registration procedures, library and counselling services, campus facilities, and social and cultural activities held at the vocational school and the university. Additionally, students were provided with guiding and explanatory information regarding administrative procedures (such as course renewals, grade appeals, leaves of absence, etc.) they might encounter throughout their education. The program concluded with a question-and-answer session, where students had the opportunity to directly ask questions to the authorities.
The “One Graduate, One Story” talk, organized by the Social Security Program of our Vocational School, was held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in our amphitheater classroom. The event, coordinated by Lecturer Yavuz Koç, attracted great interest from first- and second-year students of the program. As guests of the event, our alumni who now work at the Social Security Institution (SGK) — Hatice Mütiş, Betül Dönder, Çağrı Mutlu, and Çağlar Mutlu — shared their professional experiences and insights.
During the session, the speakers discussed topics such as preparing for the Public Personnel Selection Examination (KPSS), career development, and working conditions in public institutions. The students had the opportunity to benefit from the graduates’ experiences and ask questions related to their own career goals. At the end of the program, Lecturer Yavuz Koç thanked the guests for their valuable contributions, emphasizing that such events enhance students’ motivation and raise their professional awareness. Planned to become a regular tradition, the “One Graduate, One Story” series aims to foster strong ties between students and alumni, creating a lasting sense of community and professional solidarity.
The Academic Board Meeting for the 2025–2026 academic year of our Vocational School was held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Mustafa Zeytin, Director of our Vocational School, and attended by all academic staff members. During the meeting, plans and suggestions for the new academic term were shared, and information was provided regarding the activities to be carried out within the scope of the Higher Education Quality Council (YÖKAK) Accreditation Process. The meeting concluded following a productive evaluation session.
Students from Culinary and Fashion Design Programs, along with Lecturer Merve Bilir, participated in environment-themed events organized by the Bilecik Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change as part of Türkiye Environment Week. The events took place at Pelitözü Gölpark. Held under the themes of "Zero Waste" and "Combating Plastic Pollution," the activities featured workshops, educational programs, and various shows aimed at raising environmental awareness, all of which garnered significant interest. The organization, which had a festival-like atmosphere, saw children enjoying themselves while participants received information on environmentally friendly living habits.
Cooking Programme took part in the panel titled “Centuries-Old Flavours of Bilecik and Turkish Cuisine & Geographically Indicated Products”, held at the Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University Library as part of Turkish Cuisine Week. The event was organised under the auspices of the Bilecik Governorship and coordinated by the Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism. Lecturers Yakup Yılmaz and Aybike Nur Albayrak from the Cooking Programme contributed as panel speakers, addressing topics such as the historical development of Turkish cuisine, regional dishes, and traditional food preservation methods. The programme concluded with the presentation of plaques to the speakers and the offering of Ottoman sherbet and lokma to the participants.
Dr. Bayram Armutcı, Assistant Professor in the Printing and Publishing Technologies Programme at our school, achieved significant success in the illustration/painting competition themed "Mythology," organised for the second time this year by Ganeşa Publishing. Armutcı’s illustration titled "Gilgamesh and Humbaba" was awarded first prize by the jury. Presenting key figures from the ancient Mesopotamian epic with his own unique interpretation, Armutcı created a compelling visual narrative by blending mythological themes with contemporary aesthetics. We congratulate our instructor and wish him continued success.
Architect Yavuz Özcan met with our students as a guest speaker in a talk organised by the Interior Design Programme of our school. Held on 15 May 2025, the event aimed to support students in making conscious and informed career decisions in their professional journey. During the session, topics such as the process of transferring to undergraduate Architecture and Interior Architecture programmes through the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS), educational models in these fields, current developments in the sector, and future projections of the profession were discussed. Students had the opportunity to gain insights into academic career planning and to receive direct answers to their questions aimed at expanding their professional vision.
As part of the project “Don’t Be Addicted, Be a Hope for the Future!”, carried out by the Bilecik Provincial Police Department in cooperation with Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University, an informative seminar was held at Söğüt Vocational School for students. Organized by the Community Policing Branch Office, the seminar addressed various types of addiction, the importance of individual awareness in combating addiction, and the role of social solidarity. Actively attended by students, the event served as a valuable awareness initiative aimed at informing young people and encouraging healthy lifestyle choices.
Students from the Printing and Publishing Technologies and Interior Design Programmes of Söğüt Vocational School took part in a technical field trip to the Phrygian Valley, organised under the supervision of Lecturer Dr. Hakan Karşıyaka. Accompanied by their instructors, the students had the opportunity to explore ancient ruins located in the Han district of Eskişehir and the village of Yazılıkaya. During the visit, they learned about the historical background of the region and had the chance to observe on site what they had previously studied in theory.
