Metallurgical and Materials Engineering is a field of science and engineering that deals with the development of all production processes applied in the transformation of raw materials into useful products in line with human needs, the characterization of atomic, nano, micro and macro structures of materials and the effects of these structures on structural and functional properties in order to investigate and develop the performance of materials used in any application area. The main purpose of the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering program is to train students who are competent in the subjects of material production processes, properties, application and development in a way that will meet the qualified human resource needs of our country.
Our department was officially established in 2015 and accepted its first students in the 2015-2016 academic year. Students have the chance to register for an English preparatory class for one year optionally in our department, where the normal education period is 4 years. There are 9 academic staff in total in our department, each of whom is an expert in their field: 2 Professors, 3 Associate Professors, 3 Assistant Professors and 1 Research Assistant. Our faculty members' areas of expertise include the development of materials with different application areas such as high-tech ceramic materials for cutting tool applications, energy storage materials, biomaterials, two-dimensional nanomaterials, extractive metallurgy, hydrometallurgy, etc. In addition to the availability of basic engineering courses, courses that form the basis of Materials Science, and theoretical courses on the production and design of engineering materials, the infrastructure facilities of our department are constantly being improved. In addition, the infrastructure facilities of the Central Research Laboratory, which is located within our University and is equipped with high-tech devices for the testing and characterization of materials, are also effectively used by our department within the scope of scientific and academic studies. In addition to the importance given to practical education, in order to graduate, students are required to complete at least 40 working days of internship, and as of the 2018-2019 academic year, the 7+1 system requires students to receive business education in the last term before graduation. Our department has started accepting students for the Master's Program as of the 2018-2019 Fall Semester and for the Doctorate Program as of the 2019-2020 Spring Semester.
