The students of our department can apply to double major / sub-branch programs between Mathematics and Management Information Systems departments as of the fall semester of 2025-2026.

Our university's Computer Engineering program offers the possibility of a double major (DM) program. A double major with the Mathematics department is also planned.

The advancements in the fields of science and technology will likely lead to an increase in the importance of Statistics as a discipline and the role of statisticians. As a result, the demand for individuals with expertise in data technology will be met by statisticians, thereby increasing the utilization of statistics and its significance in the field. Consequently, the profession of statistics will become a sought-after and prominent career path.

The primary objective of the Department of Statistics and Computer Science is to cultivate individuals with analytical thinking skills, enabling them to transform the data they acquire into knowledge beneficial to society. This is achieved by equipping these individuals with the ability to conduct research, examine, inquire, and utilize decision support systems to inform their decision-making processes.

In addition to becoming statisticians, graduates can also work as data specialists, software developers, and experts in production, planning, and quality in relevant institutions and organizations.

Graduates of Statistics and Computer Science can work in any public or private institution or organization that requires data analysis.

Graduates can also continue their academic development by pursuing graduate studies in addition to their own field, in departments such as Biostatistics, Economics, Business, Econometrics, Industrial Engineering, Computer Engineering, Actuarial Science, and Mathematics.

Our department's curriculum includes fundamental courses in mathematics and statistics, as well as a variety of elective courses in statistics such as biostatistics, reliability and survival analysis, risk analysis, actuarial science, data mining, financial time series, simulation and modeling, and database management.

Statistics is widely used in many fields in daily life, including Business, Quality Control, Market and Consumer Research, Actuarial Science, Risk Analysis and Insurance, Finance and Stock Markets, Economics, Operations Research, Social Sciences, Psychology, Biology, Medicine and Health Sciences, and Demography.

In short, statisticians are the individuals who ensure that data, which is considered one of today's most important resources, is collected, analyzed, and made understandable.

The rapid advancements in computer technology and the new methods introduced by the field of statistics have led to the emergence and development of the "Statistics and Computer Science" discipline. In knowledge societies, there is a growing need for human resources who can effectively use statistical and computer techniques to transform data into meaningful information across virtually every field.

Statisticians graduate with the expertise to handle all stages of data analysis in any field (such as social sciences, healthcare, sports, demographics, economics, agriculture, engineering, etc.), from data collection to organization, analysis, and interpretation. They are equipped to provide scientific solutions to problems that may arise during these stages, using innovative approaches.

The Department of Statistics and Computer Science offers a 4-year undergraduate program. Students who successfully complete the program graduate with the title of statistician.
